In 2023, over 2.7 million (11.5%) youth ages 12-17 reported experiencing severe major depression. These rates were highest among youth who identified as more than one race, totalling approximately 123,000 youth (Mental Health America, 2023).

57.8% of Arizonans ages 12-17 who reported having depression did not receive any care in the last year (NAMI, 2021).

65% of LGBTQ+ youth who reported wanting mental health care could not access it, leaving only 35% able to access care (The Trevor Project, 2022).

Nearly 50% of LGBTQ+ youth in Arizona have seriously considered suicide in the past year and 16% have attempted suicide (The Trevor Project, 2022).

3 in 4 LGBTQ+ youth in Arizona have reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety, including 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth. Additionally, 65% reported experiencing symptoms of depression, including 70% of transgender and nonbinary youth (The Trevor Project, 2022).
Fountain Hills:

According to the Fountain Hills Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition's 2022 Community Survey, residents identified the top three issues impacting the community as 1) Anxiety/Stress, 2) Alcohol and Substance Use, and 3) Depression.

Of the caregivers who took the Community Survey, the top concerns about their children identified included how they manager stress (75.48%), mental health (73.58%), and use of social media (71.70%).
